(male announcer) this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> pam: developing right now -- the dramatic end to a tense week- long standoff. just hours ago, f-b-i agents in alabama moved in, on an underground bunker where a gunman was holding a young boy. i'm pam moore -- grant lodes is standing by with what we know. grant? >> the most important thing

is that the 5-year-old boy who was being held hostage is ok. the man who was keeping that boy in his underground bunker is dead. this is animation.giving us an idea of what that underground bunker looked like. just a short time ago, f-b- i officials announcing they stormed the underground bunker.rescuing the boy. it's not clear if the kidnapper, 65-year-old jimmy dykes was shot by authorities or if he took his own life. officials say negotiations with dykes recently deteriorated and they believed the boy was in immediate danger. this ends a 7-day stand- off, after dykes boarded a school bus, shot and killed the driver, before taking the 5-year-old boy hostage. that bunker was up a dirt road on dykes' property.the child was receiving medicine, food, even toys through p-v-c ventilation piping. this was in south eastern

alabama in rural midland city. about 80 miles from the capital of montgomery. details of the rescue operation are still emerging.and we'll keep you posted. >> pam: only on four -- we have just tracked down new information on the prime suspect. in the kidnapping of kevin collins. the san francisco abduction made national headlines in 19-84. just hours ago, kron4's maureen kelly spoke the man's former employer. >> reporter: dan therrien.who you see in the dmv photo.which kron4 first brought to light last week.was better known as kelly to the people at this south san francisco custom furnishing business. his longtime partner.jack chow.which you see here.worked there for close to eight years.and therrien did some contract painting work for them occasionally. the owner of the business.who didn't want to go on camera was shocked to hear that the home the couple shared in the 80's had been searched last week by cadaver dogs and sfpd cold case investigators in connection to the kevin

collins disappearance. she says that the man she knew was very nice and friendly.and that therrien and chow were very much in love.a happy couple who did everything together.having been partners more than 30 years. she said therrien worked from the sunset district home that he and chow moved to in 1997. that's where the man she described as artistic.would paint.and also fix up old cars.but in the last few years of his life he didn't work much at all.because his hands became crippled with arthritis. his previous landlord said that chow.who is not believed to be a suspect in the collins case.was so distraught over his partner's death in 2008.that he picked up and moved away to canada.maureen kelly kron4 news. >> pam: developing right now -- the investigation into the murder of a young teenager. we now know she was last seen leaving her home suisun last thursday. headed to school. on friday, the 13- year-old was found in allan witt park in fairfield. just hours ago -- kron 4

the super bowl loss was a heartbreaking one for many 49ers fans. showing you live and every time one of these vehicles comes out. fans are hoping that somebody is going to stop the 49ers are winners in the hearts and minds of their fans faithful. reporting live in the santa clara, kron 4 news. down 22- points in the third quarter -- the niners roared back to within five- points. they ultimately came up just short of the baltimore ravens. final score -- 34-31. kron4's j-r stone was there on the sidelines for the big game -- he joins us now

live from new orleans. j-r -- what's the mood like? >> reporter: the mood is is simply put it just as quickly as everybody is derive they ar now leaving. as ever one-rived. you can see all the work once everyone are rived has arrived,--have gone a this is a gift shop has gone and now with this clean-up is in full swing. the fans that are still mourning the loss of the 49ers. >> this was an experience of a lifetime of but it hurts. it hurts i wanted that one of really bad. >> the 49ers fans in the big easy are headed home. the stage that was set for the super bowl is no longer and the baltimore ravens are the champions leaving only a memory of what was. >> after the game i sat there and i was the only

49ers fan in the section her. >> me and my friends are right in the ravens crowd. >> reporter: it' s been no secret over the past week that niners fans in new orleans were greatly outnumbered by those cheering for the ravens. most niner fans i talked with monday were quick to bring up, what they say was a pass interference no call on michael crabtree in the closing minutes of the super bowl. >> it was a tough loss. if you do not want to make that call at the end. >> they came back and this one the momentum in our direction but it was a tough loss. terrible. >> never-the-less fans admit it was one heck of an experience being at the game. >> the third quarter when we had that come back all the ravens fans were quiet and they started cheering for us. and every first down with the forty-niners. oo

>> right now, lots of people talking about the bizarre power outage during the second half of the super bowl. now tonight -- possible causes being ruled out. it was the play no one saw coming. minutes into the second half, the lights inside the superdome went dark, leaving the super bowl at a standstill. inside the broadcast control room, technical teams scrambled to get a plan. >> what does that mean? it means about a 20 minute delay. >> reporter: with play suspended, players tried to stay loose while dome employees tried to find the problem. >> we're looking into to try to get the facts. there were no safety issues at any point in time. >> reporter: after more than 30-minutes, the lights came back on and the game resumed. despite the temporary distraction, players seemed unfazed. >> i'm sure down the road it will make for a little bit better story. >> reporter: but that story is still unfinished.

new orleans energy company, entergy, and managers of the superdome say there was an abnormality in the electrical load system but do not yet know the root of the problem. one possible cause has been ruled out. beyonce's blockbuster half- time performance did not trigger the outage. as the n-f-l packs up and bids farewell to the big easy.the commissioner made it clear, the blackout did not leave a black mark on new orlean's chances of hosting a future super bowl. >> i fully expect we'll be back here for super bowls. >> reporter: the mayor of new orleans calls the power outage an unfortunate incident-- but says the super bowl isn't over until the last visitor leaves town. so the focus is on continuing to show everyone a good time. this isnt the first time a blackout happened during a football game. and it certainly is not the first for the niners. they had a power outage during a monday night football game at candlestick back in december 2011. not once, but twice. >> pam: the 49ers won't be at the aging candlestick park much longer. right now -- construction on the teams new stadium in

mccain tweeted: "so ahmadinejad wants to be first iranian in space - wasn't he just there last week?" >> pam: the post included a link to an article from last week on iran's attempt to launch a monkey into space. after catching some backlash, mccain tweeted another message: "lighten up folks, can't everyone take a joke?" >> pam: developing right now -- police trying to figure out why a man at a texas gun range shot and killed two men. one of the victims was a navy seal. -- at this hour a suspect is behind bars. former navy seal chris kyle known for his record number of kills as a sniper. and fellow veteran chad littlefield were shot and killed saturday at a gun range on the rough creek lodge and resort in glen rose, texas. investigators say a hunting guide found their bodies. police say this man. eddie ray routh. took kyle's pickup truck and drove to his sister's house. it was there, they say, routh admitted to his sister that he shot kyle and littlefield. routh's sister called

police. a neighbor describes the scene. >> they had like four shotguns on him, i believe. it's dark out here so i did the best counting i could. next thing i know, time passes. he starts up the truck. then all of a sudden he rushes down the road and they all take off after him. >> after a short chase police arrested routh. he was charged with murder and is being held on three million dollar bond. routh spent four years in the marines and was unemployed at the time of the shooting. there is no word on a motive. sheriff tommy bryant says kyle, who started a non- profit to help veterans with p-t-s-d, may have been helping routh when he was killed. >> there has been some mention of the suspects mother was a school teacher for a long time she may have reached out to mr. kyle to try and help her son. >> pam: this is how friend and fellow veteran travis cox remembers chris kyle.

>> the man he was when he came home if i can describe it any way was a servant leader he served others, he was a humble, humble man. >> pam: chris kyle is survived by his wife and two children. chad littlefield is survived by his wife and child. >> a runaway tour bus crashed and killed seven people last night. now government records are showing that bus had 22 safety violations - including trouble with brakes. let's take a look at aerials over the deadly wreck. debris and bodies creating this horrific scene. the tour bus finally came to a stop after careening out of control in the san bernadino mountains. and now comes word that safety reports show serous problems - 22 violations in all. brake issues were noted in at least three inspections since 2011. and that same tour bus was flagged eight times for maintenance problems in the last four months. the bus was carrying a group from tijuana, mexico on a snow trip. it slammed into two vehicles. dozens of people were injured, seven died.

now for today's market update. stocks turn in their worst performance of the year so far. after posting such strong gains for the month of january. on wall street the dow lost 129-points to fall below 14- thousand. falling technology stocks cost the nasdaq 47-points. and the s-and-p-500 lost 17- points to fall below 15- hundred. the super bowl is the world's biggest stage for advertisers. but what happens when a home soda-maker tries to go head- to-head with the major drink

companies? their commercial doesn't get on! alison kosik explains. soda-stream learned the hard way: the super bowl is not the place to take on coke and pepsi. the company - which lets consumers make their own carbonated drinks at home, using less plastic in the process - says c-b-s rejected its ad for sunday's big game. soda stream claims the network threw a red-light on its commercial, for directly attacking coca-cola and pepsi-co. the commercial depicted delivery men from both companies in such a rush to get their product to stores, their bottles explode. "with soda stream, we could've saved 500 million bottles on game day alone." pepsi was the sponsor of the super bowl's halftime show. and along with coke - ran multiple spots during the game itself. soda-stream c-e-o daniel birnbaum said, "our ad confronts the beverage industry and its arguably outdated business model. one day we will look back on plastic soda bottles the way we now view cigarettes." the company instead posted the commercial on its website. it's certainly not the first time an ad has been rejected. bud light, go-daddy, and durex have all had to come up with lighter versions in the past.

but it doesn't mean the company's initial creative work was in vain. as of mid-day monday, soda- stream's rejected ad has 4 million views on youtube. i'm alison kosik in new york. take a look at this amazing shot! with the score tied and only seconds on the clock a high school point guard stumbled and fell. but not before launching a half-court shot. he made it just at the buzzer-- winning the game for his team. everyone in the gym went wild! >> when this dramatic fire broke out in minnesota over the weekend-- fire fighters were ready. grandstands at a county fairground were intentionally torched. fire fighters knock down the flames as part of a training exercise. the grandstands were condemned and burning them down saved 30- thousand dollars in demolition and removal costs. not everyone was watching the super bowl on sunday. take a look at this! the puppy bowl took over animal planet. the network bills the annual event as the "ruffest" game on four legs. players are all between 8 and 12 weeks old and come from animal shelters across the country. they romp around a huge pen made to look like a football field filled with chew toys!

>> reporter: kron four has learned that this walnut creek home was one of the houses on the vacationing subscriber list that thieves broke into - stealing a car and reportedly some personal property. and it was not the only house targeted. police believe the thieves were using the internal list of addresses for the past three months. it is unclear right now how many homes were hit. or how much was stolen. and it is unclear. how the list of subscribers asking for a temporary hold on their newspaper while they are out of town - fell into the hands of criminals. police say they discovered this crime ring after getting a tip in livermore. that is where two men were caught in a stolen car belonging to the walnut creek homeowner. the two were reportedly trying to steal another car from a vacationing livermore family. inside the car was a list of vacationing subscribers. two men have been arrested. walnut creek police are not releasing their name. they say they are currently looking for a thrid suspect.
